Our Core Values Explained

Baruch Senior Ministries is based on faith. Here is a little background on the Bible verse we hold dear and why we chose “Baruch” as the name of our organization.

In the Bible, Baruch was the closest companion and loyal secretary to the prophet Jeremiah. As Jeremiah’s secretary, it is quite likely that Baruch was responsible for the compilation of the Book of Jeremiah.

Before being exiled to Egypt, Jeremiah purchased land to ensure his people long term security. God promised Jeremiah that He “will bring them back to this place and let them live in safety” (Jeremiah 32:37). Jeremiah placed the deed in Baruch’s hands to display God’s commitment and faithfulness to His people. Thereby, Baruch served as an instrument for assuring God’s people would never be abandoned.

Just as Baruch and his people were forced to leave their homeland and lost in despair, our residents have moved from their homes and lost spouses, friends, and family members. They live with various health challenges and they face the reality of a life that is almost over. Overwhelmed by their current place in life and its difficulties, our residents may feel some despair.

Just as Baruch was committed to carrying out his charge, Baruch Senior Ministries is committed to honoring God by serving people as they age. Our foundation is on God’s promise that He will “heal his people and let them enjoy abundant peace and security” (Jeremiah 33:6).

Our assisted living communities are dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care. They work hard to ensure that every individual has their needs met. We provide a place of love, community, and comfort for our residents – a place they can call their home.

As part of our mission, we offer The Lifetime Promise which provides reduced costs to qualified residents based on their monthly income. We make sure that even when our residents face financial difficulty, they will never have to leave our communities and they will always receive the care they need.

Baruch Senior Ministries highly values respect. As we work to care for our residents during a vulnerable stage in life, we ensure that they are treated with respect and dignity. We believe that every person, whether a resident, family member, or staff member, should be treated with respect.

As a faith-based organization, we believe that every person is created in the image of God. We are all blessed with different gifts and abilities that we can use to serve others. When everyone is working together and using their God-given gifts, beautiful things happen!

Our communities are committed to providing compassionate care! Our goal is provide a place our residents can call home where their physical, social, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs are met. Our Caregivers, Chaplains, Administrative Staff, Dietary Staff, Life Enrichment Teams, and Maintenance are dedicated to compassionately caring for the residents in their buildings with dignity and respect.

Baruch Senior Ministries values honesty and trust. We are committed to being an honest and trustworthy source for our residents, families, and staff. Looking for an assisted living home for your loved one can be daunting, which is why our staff is available to provide open and honest help to all who are in need.

Standing on the Promises of God – May Spiritual Care Blog Post

“It is the integrity of God’s character that makes it impossible for him to lie (Hebrews 6:18). That’s why we can, without wavering or any hesitation, hold tightly to God’s word because he is faithful and reliable in keeping his promise”(Hebrews 10:23; Numbers 23:19).

Have you ever made a promise and broke it? Has anyone made a promise to you and broken it? I am pretty sure there was or is a lot of hurt involved on both sides of the broken promise. It is because you and I are broken human sinners. We try to keep our promises, yet, somewhere in that promise, we fail the other person, ourselves, and God.

But, praise God, he is not like us! He keeps his promises, and he keeps them so well, that we can stand on them, believing he will not break his promises to us. Thinking about promises reminded me of the song, Standing on the Promises of God. I have included the song below:

1. Standing on the promises of Christ, my King, through eternal ages let his praises ring; glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, standing on the promises of God.

Refrain: Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God, my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.

2. Standing on the promises that cannot fail, when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, by the living Word of God I shall prevail, standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

4. Standing on the promises I cannot fall, listening every moment to the Spirit’s call, Resting in my Savior as my all in all, standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

John Piper writes, “The key that unlocks the treasure chest of God’s peace is faith in the promises of God”. When you become overwhelmed with life, relationships are strained, money is tight and your health is failing, turn to God’s promises and stand firm on them!

Baruch Senior Ministries Hosts a Virtual Wing-Eating Fundraiser

Grand Rapids, MI, April 14, 2023 – Baruch Senior Ministries, a 501(c)(3) faith-based nonprofit, and the 13th largest multi-site nonprofit assisted living provider in the country, is once again hosting their annual Wing-Eating Fundraiser, the 2023 Wing-A-Thon!

This year Baruch welcomes 32 two-person wing-eating teams, 9 participating communities, and 9 community sponsors! These two-person teams will be competing to see who can eat the most chicken wings in one hour and raise the most funds for their Baruch community.

One Baruch community, Georgetown & Cambridge in Grandville, MI, got creative with their fundraising tactics. They dressed up in inflatable chicken costumes to advertise this event so they can build a new patio for their residents to enjoy this summer. Check out their video!

Last year, 17 two-person teams, from seven Baruch communities participated in this hour-long wing-eating competition! They raised over $10,000 and ate a total of 1,276.5 chicken wings! With almost double the number of teams as last year, Baruch Senior Ministries is hoping to increase the amount of funds raised and the amount of chicken wings eaten.

Baruch Senior Ministries invites the community to tune in on Facebook or YouTube to watch this fundraiser LIVE from 2 PM to 3 PM on April 14. Viewers are encouraged to donate or make a pledge for their team of choice! All donations/pledges for this event will be used to complete various projects in the participating Baruch communities.
